I've started reading the book, «The Deconstruction of Christianity,» by Alisa Childers and Tim Barnett. It is interesting and resonates with me regarding my everyday experiences interacting with people, especially on social media. «Deconstruction» and «Exvangelical» were not terms I was familiar with prior to reading this book, though I was smart enough to avoid #exvangelical. I figured it was reasonable to assume that the post would be theologically inaccurate and annoying at best, and vitriolic at worst.

The authors make the case that deconstruction is the destruction of orthodox Christianity. It seems like this should be obvious from the get-go; the authors explain why it is not obvious, and why many within Christendom are confused and being seduced by this practice (?) or philosophy (??) of deconstruction. Progressives within the Church (read «false brothers» or «savage wolves» [my opinion]) use the term deconstruction positively. They characterize deconstruction as nothing more than Christians questioning their faith or dealing with difficult questions. They describe it as healthy and encourage it. The authors rightly say that this is grossly misleading:

«Deconstruction is not about getting your theology right. It's not about trying to make your views match reality. It's about tearing down doctrines that are morally wrong to you to make them match your own internal conscience, moral compass, true authentic self, or whatever else it's being called these days. Yet the goal for all Christians should be to align our beliefs with the Word of God, despite our own personal feelings or beliefs on the topic» (Childers and Barnett, The Deconstruction of Christianity.).

I'm about 25% of the way through the book. I'm interested to see how the authors suggest we combat this. ###
